About Tuff Cymru Toughened Safety Glass

2005 saw the launch of a new product, Tuff Cymru® Toughened Safety Glass – the only toughened safety glass produced in North Wales. Our Efco toughening plant, with full air aspiration, can manufacture toughened glass as small as 250mm x 200mm and as large as 1500mm x 3000mm - and from 4mm thick up to 19mm thick kitemarked.

It is available in annealed, all Pilkington's pattern range, 'K' glass, Pilkington active self-cleaning glass and soft coated glass. As well as being used in windows, doors, etc., it can also be used for shower doors, screens, splash-backs and worktops. We can supply toughened glass with shapes, cut-outs, holes and polished edges in clear or figured glass.

In May 2006 we obtained our Kitemark Licence KM502606 and our BSEN12600. The Kitemark is the symbol of trust, integrity and quality. Tuff Cymru is the only toughened safety glass that is identified by the dragon quality symbol. Manufacturers having this award associated with their product will reassure customers that they have satisfied the most rigorous of quality processes. We can manufacture toughened glass to suit most requirements.

Toughened glass is strong, has enhanced thermal resistance, and breaks into small cuboid fragments rather than shards and is less likely to cause injury. Toughened glass is used when strength, thermal resistance and safety are important considerations. The most commonly encountered tempered glass is that used for side and rear windows in automobiles, used for its characteristic of shattering into small cubes rather than large shards. Tempered glass is also used in buildings for unframed assemblies (such as frameless doors), structurally-loaded applications, and any other application that would become dangerous in the event of human impact. Toughened glass is used in some cell phones due to its scratch-resistant properties. (Wikipedia)
